Roundtable “Fake News, Disinformation and Information Integrity in the Academic and Professional Environment”

On April 29, 2026, the Faculty of Letters at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca hosted a roundtable discussion titled “#BookSafetyDay: Fake News, Misinformation, and Information Integrity in Academic and Professional Settings” which facilitated a dialogue between experts and participants on fostering responsible behavior regarding information sources, as well as in relation to the values of education and public safety.
During the roundtable, several key discussion points were addressed, including: the definition of disinformation in 2026; the impact of disinformation on public safety and risks to social order; the role of formal education in fostering critical consumption of information and existing gaps in the curriculum; and the role of law enforcement agencies and the legal system in managing the phenomenon of fake news, while respecting freedom of expression.
Among the guests at the roundtable was Junior Lecturer Cristina Tomuleț, who made several remarks on the limits of freedom of expression in light of ECHR case law and the role of critical thinking in upholding democracy.
In addition, the following guests also contributed to the debate: Alina Pop, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Belgium in Cluj and Vice President of the Francophone Business Club of Cluj; Chief Police Commissioner Radu-Adrian Moșuțan, Chief Inspector of the Cluj County Police Inspectorate; Police Inspector Iulian Timșa, spokesperson for the Cluj County Police Inspectorate; Cristian Sincovici, director of Mega Publishing House; Monica Csibi, recruiter at Viking.
