Through its faculty members, the Faculty of Law participates in various research projects at the domestic and international level. Some of the more recent milestones are mentioned in this section.
At the national level, since 2024, based on a collaboration protocol, the Faculty of Law of Babeș-Bolyai University participates (along with the West University of Timișoara, the Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași and the 1 Decembrie 1918 University of Alba Iulia) in a project funded by the Chamber of Tax Consultants of Romania, which aims to collect, synthesize and comment on cases in the field of transfer pricing, in order to create a database to be used both by tax consultants and at the level of the National Institute of Magistracy. The Faculty of Law is represented in the project by Associate Professor Cosmin Flavius Costaș and Senior Lecturer Septimiu Ioan Puț.

Other projects imply a more pronounced international component.
For example, The Faculty of Law takes part in the DIGILARE project, focusing on workplace representation in a digital world of work. The team is composed by 23 researchers from 15 countries (14 EU Member States and Turkey). The project examines, by carrying out comparative legal analysis in this field, how digitalisation of industrial relations could enhance and strengthen workplace representation. DIGILARE (101126503) addresses a magnitude of legal questions arising from (cross-border) telework, focusing on the role of social dialogue to ensuring that an increasingly digital world works for people: who is covered by workplace representation; which national Member State’s rules apply in a cross-border context; how are employee rights to information and consultation guaranteed in a digital world of work; what needs to be regulated to provide for quality working conditions, given the increased risks of workplace digitalisation on the workers’ health and safety?

The Faculty of Law takes part in the ETUI The Right to Strike National Profiles (SNPs) project (Code/project No.: 2451-115-12-21). The right to strike is a fundamental human and labour right. enjoying universal recognition, and a cornerstone of democratic societies and more equitable labour relations. However, its specific legal configuration varies considerably among European countries. And even within countries, it can change over time as it is a frequent object of reform. Also, different rules may govern strikes in the public and private sectors, with the former often subject to varying and more extensive restrictions. Thus, the legal framework on the right to strike can be seen as a diverse moving target. The Right to Strike National Profiles (SNPs) project seeks to capture this moving target by developing a ‘one-stop’ entry data source of accessible, reliable and concise information on the latest current legal framework in European countries.

FUTOURWORK is ongoing as a Horizon Europe-funded research project dedicated to creating a fairer, more inclusive tourism and hospitality sector, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. It is an ambitious initiative of which the Faculty of Law in Cluj is a part of aims to transform the future of work in the sector, bringing systemic change to how labour issues are addressed. It will promote more effective dialogue among employers, unions, and governments and address the growing concerns related to gender inequality, job insecurity and worker wellbeing at a time of digital transformation.

Over time, the Faculty of Law has also participated in other research projects that have looked at agricultural taxation, environmental taxes, and financial sanctions in the field of VAT at the European Union level.
An eloquent example is the participation, for more than 10 years, in the EUFIRE project, then in the EUFIRE-RE project, coordinated by Professor Mihaela Tofan at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași.
