Harmonisation of law: the South African experience

Abstract

South Africa has a mixed jurisdiction in more than one sense. This paper describes the successful harmonization of Roman-Dutch and English law, the obstacles to integration of indigenous law into the South African legal system and the work in progress integrating human rights into the private law.
