The Faculty of Law announces the release of the volume Legal Terminology in English: Essential Concepts and Practical Applications<\/em> (Terminologie juridic\u0103 \u00een limba englez\u0103. Concepte esen\u021biale \u0219i aplica\u021bii practice<\/em>), authored by Assistant Professor Laura Laz\u0103r, and recently published by C.H. Beck.<\/p>\n

The work is the result of nearly a decade of teaching and research in the field of legal terminology and addresses an increasingly evident need in the training of future legal professionals: the ability to correctly understand and use English legal language within international professional and academic contexts.<\/p>\n

The volume is closely linked to the curricular reform initiated in 2016 at the UBB Faculty of Law, when\u2014at the proposal of Professor Florin Streteanu\u2014traditional foreign language courses were replaced by legal terminology classes taught by instructors with legal backgrounds. This shift was driven by the premise that the language of law cannot be taught in isolation from the legal substance of the concepts it expresses, and that understanding these concepts is just as important as acquiring vocabulary. This book is the first work to present this pedagogical approach in a unified format and is one of the few publications in Romanian legal literature dedicated exclusively to English legal terminology from a legal professional’s perspective. It goes beyond merely presenting terminological equivalents; it explains fundamental legal institutions and concepts, enabling the reader to grasp the legal meaning of terms and how they are applied in practice.<\/p>\n

Drawing on her teaching experience, the author proposes an integrated approach in which each topic is developed gradually through conceptual introductions, learning objectives, bilingual glossaries, terminological explanations, elements of legal grammar, practical exercises, and annotated answers. The work serves as both a course resource and a tool for independent study or professional development.<\/p>\n

The volume is primarily addressed to law students but is also useful for master\u2019s and doctoral students, lawyers, magistrates, legal counsels, and anyone using English in legal practice or international cooperation.<\/p>\n

In the preface, Professor Florin Streteanu highlights the innovative nature of the work, noting that it goes beyond the classic legal vocabulary course model to offer a genuine introduction to the legal mindset as expressed in English. He also emphasizes the work’s distinct place in Romanian legal literature, within a field where specialized contributions remain scarce.<\/p>\n

With the publication of this volume, the Faculty of Law at Babe\u0219-Bolyai University continues its tradition of promoting modern teaching methods and developing academic resources tailored to the current demands of the legal profession.
