Starting with the 2024-2025 academic year, the Diploma in English Law and Legal Skills (DEELS), a study program administered by the British Law Centre, can also be followed in Cluj-Napoca in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of Babe\u0219-Bolyai University. For the 2026-2027 academic year, the registration period is May\u2013October, and applications can be submitted on the registration platform. For registrations made by June 30, 2026, a discount on the payment of the tuition fee is available.<\/p>\n
Registration for DEELS is open to students, regardless of the year of study, as well as to trainee or permanent lawyers, magistrates, legal advisors, as well as students or professionals from other specialized fields. Students and trainee lawyers benefit from a reduced tuition fee compared to the standard fee.<\/p>\n
DEELS is a 9-month (October-June) hybrid study program, with courses offered both online and in person at the Faculty of Law. The program includes 4 substantive law courses (English Legal System, Contract Law, Tort Law and Equity and the Law of Trusts), as well as a course dedicated to skills specific to the legal professions (interviewing and advising clients, case analysis and trial strategies, written advocacy, oral advocacy, negotiation and contracts drafting, examination and cross-examination of witnesses).<\/p>\n
The courses are taught by lecturers from the British Law Centre team, native English-speaking legal professionals. The current academic director of BLC is Prof. Richard Fentiman, from the Faculty of Law of the University of Cambridge. The graduation diploma is issued by the British Law Centre and the Faculty of Law of UBB. For the graduation of this study program, the Faculty of Law offers 14 credits.<\/p>\n
DEELS aims, firstly, to acquire knowledge of English law, the law applicable in most international legal relations. Secondly, DELLS aims to accumulate and consolidate skills specific to the legal professions, such as negotiating and writing contracts, questioning witnesses, and giving pleadings. Thirdly, the program aims to deepen the knowledge of legal English.<\/p>\n
The subjects taught within DEELS ensure that a significant part of the topics required for the “Solicitor Qualification Exam” (SQE), the entrance exam for the profession of “solicitor” (lawyer) in England, are covered. Candidates from outside England, including Romania, can also participate in this exam.<\/p>\n
